   Year 6 Maths problem solving Strategies

Year 6 Maths Topics

  • Number and Place Value: Understanding large numbers, rounding, and comparing values.
  • Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division: Mastering operations and using them in problem-solving.
  • Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages: Converting and calculating with fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Geometry: Shapes, angles, and symmetry.
  • Measurement: Converting units, calculating area, perimeter, and volume.
  • Data Handling: Interpreting and presenting data using graphs and charts.

  • Spelling: Mastering common spelling rules, including rules for prefixes, suffixes, silent letters, and homophones.

  • Grammar:

Reading Comprehension

In Year 6, students focus on reading comprehension to develop their ability to analyze and interpret a variety of texts. Key skills include:

  • Identifying main ideas and summarizing key points.
  • Understanding vocabulary in context, including figurative language and word meanings.
  • Making inferences: Drawing conclusions based on evidence from the text.
  • Answering questions that require detailed explanations and evidence to support their answers.
  • Exploring different genres of writing, such as fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.
